The Gun Confiscation State
Since the Republican Congress and Republican Governor in Florida passed its "Red Flag" gun confiscation law in March, over 450 gun owners have had their firearms and ammunition confiscated. That's over 100 gun owners per month. About 25% of these gun owners had concealed carry permits, which means they had gone through an FBI background check before being issued the permit. One county alone, Pinellas County, has confiscated 200 firearms and 30,000 rounds of ammunition. Remember, these are people who have NOT committed a crime--or even been accused of committing a crime--but who are said to show "signs" that one day they MIGHT commit a crime.
Florida is one of several states that have enacted "Red Flag" gun confiscation laws. States that have already enacted "Red Flag" laws include California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington and, of course, Florida.
States currently considering enacting "Red Flag" laws include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.
These "Red Flag" laws are nothing but backdoor gun control--of the worst kind. Who would have ever thought that the day would come in America when citizens who had not committed a crime or even been accused of committing a crime would have their firearms seized? And it is happening right under our noses, and so-called pro-Second Amendment Republicans are just as eager to pass these gun confiscation laws as Democrats.
Ever since Donald Trump loudly proclaimed "Take the guns first, go through due process second," states have rushed to propose "Red Flag" laws that do just that.
If the example of Florida teaches us anything, it teaches us that we cannot trust Republicans to hold the line on the Second Amendment any more than we can trust Democrats.
Folks, you better keep an eye on your State legislature, because your State could be next."
