U.S. to Withdraw From U.N. Human Rights Council
The United Nations has made it clear that they only have one criterion for something to be considered a “violation of human rights” – that Israel is the perpetrator.
In 2016, the U.N. general assembly passed five times more resolutions against Israel than against North Korea, Syria, Russia, Iran, and the rest of world… COMBINED. Only Israel was listed as a violator of women’s rights, labor rights, and people’s “mental, physical and emotional health.” (RELATED: Israel Fights Back After UN Attacks Them).
Back in March, Nikki Haley called out the UN for their long-standing anti-Israel bias. She told the UN that “the United States would continue to examine our membership,” following anti-Israel bias when the UN sided with Hamas members that were killed attempting to storm the Israeli border. She also called out their “relentless, pathological campaign” against Israel.
And now, that threat is going to become policy.
According to Bloomberg, “the Trump administration plans to announce its withdrawal from the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday, making good on a pledge to leave a body it has long accused of hypocrisy and criticized as biased against Israel, according to two people familiar with the matter.”
The UN’s Human Rights Council started in 2006 – and has done nothing to advance human rights. The U.S. was opposed to the Counsel from day one, with former Ambassador John Bolton voicing opposition to its creation. (RELATED: UN Calls American Police Officers ‘Racial Terrorists’).
While the State Department has not confirmed the pull-out, they did say in a statement to The Independent that the U.S. wants “a Human Rights Council that fulfills its purpose as the premier international focal point for human rights issues.” The U.S. has also threatened to pull out of the UN’s Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), citing anti-Israel bias in that case too.
While liberals are portraying this as America “stepping away from the international community” – in reality, it’s an acknowledgment that we shouldn’t be part of a human rights council that boasts membership from countries that are among the worst human rights violators on the planet.
