The message is clear: Romney’s choice to appease the national media during the Senate trial was a betrayal that won’t be forgiven by conservatives.
Lets Face Folks He is A RINO at Heart
The Washington Examiner reports:
Matt Schlapp, the head of the American Conservative Union, said Romney is not allowed at the event after the Utah Republican voted in favor of summoning witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump. Romney was one of two Republicans who joined 47 Democrats in supporting the motion, which failed to pass on Friday.
Romney has long had a troubled relationship with conservatives.
Here’s the takeaway: Romney isn’t being cast out of the conservative movement because he criticized Trump. Many conservative standard-bearers (Rand Paul and Ted Cruz come to mind) have disagreed strongly with Trump at times, and are still welcomed by the movement.
But when Paul and Cruz disagree, it’s on matters of principle. Not so with Romney. He’s proved time and time again that he craves the approval of the media and elites more than he values the voters that he’s supposed to represent.
Conservatives don’t need fickle allies. And they don’t need Mitt Romney.
