Our forefathers wrote our Constitution so that we would have freedom of religion. Those who left their lands to come here seeking freedom from religious persecution. Our First Amendment says,
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Thus, we are to be a people who are free of a government that dictates to us what we shall believe. Unlike the Middle East Islamic countries, China and other dictatorial countries and the Vatican who have forced people to believe only what the leaders tell them to believe in or be killed or spend time in jail, tortured, etc., we the people of the United States of America were to be free from coercion to believe what others dictated. The Amendment also gave us the right to be free in our religious beliefs.
Unfortunately, countless people in this nation are working very hard to take these rights away from us. For a long time, atheists have done their best to keep Christians from worshipping in freedom. Reading scripture, prayers and Bible study with other like-minded people have long been a severe threat to those who reject the reality of Almighty God. Liberals and many in our own government demand that their anti-Christ belief system is the only thing allowed. Christians have been sued because they choose to stand for their belief in Christ and not become involved with those who are anti-Christian by their lifestyle. Christians have been kicked out of apartments because they had Bible studies in their apartments. Some Christians have been arrested because they were reading the Bible in public. Yes, these things are happening in this nation - the United States of America.
Now we are also confronted with the Muslims who insist the Islam is the only acceptable religious belief. Their end time eschatology demands to force ALL non-Muslims to become Muslim or die. They also believe that when their Mahadi comes, they will also have their own Jesus who shall come and say that Christianity is a false religion and Islam is the only true religion (Walid Shoebat, “God’s War on Terror: Islam, Prophecy, and the Bible”, (2008), Top Executive Media).
We are truly living in the last days. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV):
“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”
Are we not witnessing the great falling away? So many ‘Christian’ spiritual leaders are teaching false doctrines that shall keep people from coming into a relationship with God Almighty through His Son Jesus Christ. Many people do not want to hear messages about the need to experience salvation through Jesus Christ and that He is the only way to salvation.
Ronald Reagan once said:
"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same."
How much religious freedom must we lose before we make our stand to take our religious freedom back? How long will we keep silent?
What must we do to keep from losing our freedom of religion? I believe that we must return to our first Love. The Lord promised in Joel 2:12-13:
“12 Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;
13 and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.”
In Joel 2: 28-29, God promises that He will come to us:
“28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams,
and your young men shall see visions.
29 Even on the male and female servants” in those days, I will pour out my Spirit.”
May we repent. May our spiritual leaders repent. May we come together in prayer and intercession. May we be a part of the spiritual warfare. May the Lord consume our hearts and minds with His Presence and help the people of this nation to return to Him before it is too late.
